Ocean Kayak Prowler 13

The Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 is a great general use fishing kayak. A well thought out design provides you with plenty of storage space and a comfortable seating position.

The Prowler 13 is at home in the surf, off the beaches, or in large lakes and is built to keep you dry. The 13′ length helps it track straight and gives you improved hull speed over similar length boats.

What We Think…

One of my favorite boats is the Ocean Kayak Prowler 13.

Deck Space

Deck space is usually an issue when you go kayak fishing, this kayak has a lot of it big enough to fit a cooler at the back or even a tackle bag at the back. The compartments keep things from flying out while you’re paddling.A nice feature of this boat is also the contoured shape on the inside around the deck it keeps water from pooling inside your boat you have to scupper holes and water drains right out you never have to worry.

Storage and Seat

There are a couple of nice bungee straps that come with it that you can use to secure your things or your cooler. There are two flush mount rod holders that do their job holding their rods in nice and steady. I wouldn’t use them if your leaving your rod sitting in there they can actually move around a little bit you might not want to leave them while your trolling around.

The seat comes standard with it it’s not the most comfortable seat in the world but it is a seat that’s useful if you want to go out for 6-7 hours at a time you might want to get a pad or you might have some trouble.

Rod Holders and Foot Support

The rod pod is my favorite feature on the boat, when you remove the hatch you get access all the way to the front and all the way to the back it will fit any rod you want to take to the surf. Or if you’re getting out of the surf stick your rods in there and if you happen to flip your boat you won’t be losing all your stuff.

Also the ocean kayak prowler 13 comes with foot straps that move around very easily you can adjust them while your there don’t even have to get out of your seat.

A big feature is it has its own area for a fish finder, really easy to install you can stick the base that comes with your fish finder perfectly within the little cubby you can run the wire through the kayak and put some silicon in without trouble. If you like to put your transducer in the water it comes with a hole where you can stick your transducer through if that’s what you want to do.

One nice thing is the front hatch make it really easy to let you get into it if you’re on the water and the seals great not a lot of water will get into the kayak

The transducer compatible scupper has been designed to allow the beam from your fish finder transducer to easily penetrate the hull, giving you both the bottom depth, and alerting you to the presence of fish without worrying about banging the transducer loose when you’re storing gear inside the boat.

Recommendation

Whether you fish in large lakes and off the beaches, or in small ponds and creeks, the Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 does well. A large bow hatch and a 6″ cam lock hatch give you plenty of access to the inside of the hull. An oversized tankwell fits most coolers or your homemade fishing crate. We recommend this kayak for paddlers looking to take the step up from a beginner kayak to something that packs a bit more of a kick.
